green eggs and ...

One of the thematic postcards I collect is EASTER

I like that this Ukrainian card shows an early spring with the tree's leaves

these green eggs are much more subdued than the other brightly painted Ukrainian eggs, but the colours remind me of the varying shades of green on the newly budding leaves

and they blend in well with the colours of some bird's eggs

pussy willows are an important tradition in Slavic Easter celebrations as the first blooms of spring
this little girl with her pussy willows and  painted red cheeks will perhaps be painting her basket of eggs next
this little girl looks rather wistful

maybe she needs

a little special delivery to cheer her up

a little bit of spring and Easter for a seasonal Thursday Postcard Hunt

easterly things

I have shown this before, but as we have new people to our group, it is worth showing again.  This is a huge Pysanka sculpture.  It is 31 feet long and three and a half storeys high.  A colourful roadside attraction in Alberta.

For our food category this anniversary stamp for Nutella is most delicious
I thought I might be at risk of endlessly repeating myself, but then I found this Easter lily from Barbados

Happy Easter to all who celebrate

spring

Every day is a new adventure with spring. New growth everywhere. Gardens change almost daily and I look forward to all those firsts: first robin, first snowdrop, first tulip! the magnolias and cherry blossoms, then the fresh brilliant green of new leaves. This is my favourite season.

Sunday Stamps - E

2010,  Finland,  Easter Twins

This year, Easter falls on April 1.  Both eggs and rabbits symbolize new life and fertility and are also closely associated with Spring and rebirth.

Sunday Stamps II - 16

2014 Happy Easter
designed by cartoonist Peter Gaymann.
Apparently chickens feature prominently in P Gay's drawings, and this one is getting a design plan (entwurf) from a rabbit for a decorated egg. I must admit, it took me a moment to see what was happening, so focused was I on the Frohe Ostern! Mr Gaymann has been drawing cartoons for over 30 years and you can find quite an extensive selection on google, but the captions are all in a written font  (as the above Frohe Ostern, but usually much smaller), which I found almost impossible to decipher.
It is also interesting to note that in Europe it is an adult rabbit, whereas here in North America, it is a cute, little bunny that brings the Easter eggs.
