I was looking through my fishes for a carp and came across this 'csuka', which translates to pike in English.  Below, is a 'ponty' which translates to carp in English.

The moon that Luna 1 missed in 1959. The Soviets expected the Luna 1 to impact the moon, but instead became the first human made object to orbit the sun, where it continues today (between the sun and mars)

Medieval authors called the country by the Latin name Ungaria and later Hungaria, but the Hungarians even today call themselves Magyars and their homeland Magyarország (ország means country in Hungarian).  

Maybe travelling closer to home, Lake Balaton, the largest lake in central Europe, and a favourite tourist destination.  One feature of the area is an echo that could be heard from a certain point from the sound bouncing off the wall of the abbey.  Today, with all the newer construction it is less evident.  There was a famous poem written about this phenomena by Janos Garay and I wonder if that is what the mysterious paper and feather (pen?) indicates?

A presshouse - wine press house, or wine press - in the eastern state of Burgenland, Austria.  There seems to be a few presshouses offered as holiday villas.  As Burgenland is the least populous state, this holiday home might be the perfect quiet, peaceful place to get away from it all.  And drink a little wine.

In nearby Hungary, this hybrid tea rose is front and centre on this 1962 stamp, one of six in a series.

I love the way the light filters through coloured glass and this is a particularly lovely shade of blue

It would have been around 1978, when this stamp came out, that I first joined a quilting bee. It did not go well. I so admire the work these quilters can create. And the patience they have to get it done!

In 1965, Alexei Leonov became the first person to do a spacewalk. The map of earth behind him is interesting, and probably not at all as he saw it.

Ammonites first appeared some 240 million years ago.
The zelkova could go back as far as 2.5 - 5.3 million years ago.

The building was started in 1895 (finished in 1902), and inaugurated in 1896 on the 1000th anniversary of Hungary, this is the third largest parliament building in the world.
