rue royal

Royal Street was spared the worst of the floods from Katrina, in 2005, having been built on naturally higher ground near the curve of the Mississippi.

According to wikipedia, the antique shops in the upper French Quarter could be the world's most expensive places to shop.

10th Street

I'm not usually a fan of 'clear-cut' looking roads, but there is something about arriving in Owen Sound on Hwy 21 and seeing this expansive view...

albert hall

Opened 1871 and dedicated to Prince Albert, who by then had been dead for 10 years. It is a grade I listed building, which means it's a building of 'exceptional interest'. At one time it held up to 9,000 people but safety rules now limit it to around 5.400. Although I have never been, nor have I seen it on tv, I generally associate the Albert Hall with the Proms, an eight week daily festival of mostly classical music. Each night has a different theme.  Tonight's prom is Doctor Who Prom!
(if you're watching it, Joy, I want to know what you thought)

The Orchard Road district — one of Asia's most popular shopping areas.
It is a 2.2 km long full of high end retail, upmarket restaurants, hotels, with the president's residence at the eastern end and the Botanic Gardens on the western edge.
The name comes from the nutmeg and pepper plantations that the road once led towards.

Interlaken

sent July 30, 1928 Interlaken Switzerland to Wichita USA

Dear Cousins, this shows our hotel in Interlaken - the one at the left, in fact all that building. In the distance is the majestic and beautiful Jungfrau - the 'belle' of the neighbourhood - always covered with dazzling white snow.
