The Dempster Highway links southern Yukon to the Mackenzie Delta in the Northwest Territories.  It is the only public road in North America to cross the Arctic Circle.

The River Valley Scenic Drive in New Brunswick, on the east coast.  This part of the Trans Canada Highway runs between two Rivers - The Madawaska and the St John.

While the pool in my building is not nearly so large, nor is it ever so busy, it irks me no end that the day after Labour Day - the unofficial end of 'summer' - it is closed for the season. For the whole month of August we did not get any days above 30C (unusual). For the rest of this week, we will.

A spherical pressurized aluminum gondola took Auguste Piccard up into the stratosphere in for the first time in 1931.  He would make 27 trips upwards, finally reaching a record breaking 14 miles above ground.   It is possible that he was the first to see the curvature of the earth. Piccard was a Swiss physicist, inventor, and explorer (1884-1962).   He had a twin brother named Jean and they were the inspiration behind the name of Starfleet Captain Jean-Luc Picard.

Between 1937 and 1942, 1500 Tiger Moths were built by de Havilland. The RCAF first used this model for elementary pilot training in 1938 and thousands of pilots  would receive training during during WWII. Many remembered this plane affectionately as a pleasant aircraft to fly. This stamp shows a DH-82C in Second World War trainer-yellow flying over Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

1992 Canada in Space

The Anik E2 telecommunications satellite was launched in 1991 and retired in 2005.  The first Anik was launched in 1972 as the first geostationary communications satellites in the world. The name means little brother in Inuktitut. The stamp design shows earth form space and a remote sensing photograph of an are near Quebec City.
