Amir Temur (1320-1405, or thereabouts), perhaps more commnly known as Tamerlane, was a particularly brutal military leader from Uzbekistan, seen here on a rearing horse, a statue in Tashkent. Uzbekistan is a double land-locked country (meaning it has no ocean, but neither does any of the surrounding countries) in Central Asia. It is bounded by Kazakhstan, Kyrgystan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan.

A terrible man!
On the other side of history, my U-women are here.
Yes. We have been defacing and tearing down statues (and renaming buildings) of men who were very flawed, but not nearly as barbaric.
I didn't realize there were double labs locked countries! My entry for U is here: https://envelope100.blogspot.com/2025/12/u-is-for-usps-250th-birthday.html
I always wonder what is like to live in a landlocked country, but suppose the big rivers compensate.
My U is here
I never knew about double land-locked. Land-locked seems strange, but then I realized (looked up) Uzbekistan is roughly the size of California, and most US states are land-locked, some doubly so. I've always lived on a coast, so it would seem strange to me.

I just learned about double land-locked countries: thank you! I wonder why they celebrate brutal men....
