This photograph was taken in 1940 by Claude Detloff. The picture of the five year old boy racing to his father in the Duke of Connaught's Own Rifles marching to a waiting ship was soon after used by the government to help sell war bonds. Warren "Whitey" Bernard's father survived the war.
