vintage and contemporary postcards and stamps from around the world

22 October 2026

maps come in all shapes and sizes

New Jersey is the fifth smallest state in the US, at 7, 354 sq mi (19,050 km²) but is the 11th most populous with over 9.6 million people.  I think this map is the busiest one I have of any state!
Then there is Utah, with a population of around 3 million, it is the 11th least densely populated state within its 84,899 sq mi (219,887 km²)

If you're feeling peckish, how about Taiwan, which does an excellent job of promoting their foods
Actually, Taiwan may be the one country I have the most maps of, including a few that are shaped
but, I really like this series that I call 'wallpaper maps'

This is my 2,000th published post in this site, and I decided to make the cards larger so you could actually see some of the details - and in the process lost some of the details.  Still learning...

I like the naming of Apple Pie Hill in New Jersey and the shaped Taiwan which is also a 'busy' map but much more calming.
My island maps are here

It is funny to compare the map of New Jersey and Utah. Such different styles! I always find maps on postcards very entertaining. On the "busy" one I would spend a lot of time (plus, it has the lighthouses!), and same on the food one. I think getting the "wallpaper map" would be disappointing.

I uploaded a sort of map here.

May I ask why you have so many maps of Taiwan?

I'll ask too, why so many from Taiwan?

I don't know why, but the first thing that came to my mind when I saw the first map of your blog was the title sequence of Bonanza, the one where a map would beging to catch fire, which I used to watch as a very young bloke....

I also had a lot of trouble finding an entry on my blog to participate, but I eventually succeeded :-). You can find it here

Oh, and Congratulations on your 2000th post!

It seems Taiwan loves to put a map of their country on postcards, and as it is the 6th most popular country I've gotten cards from, I have a lot of them.
