snuggery

There is so much I like about this postcard.  I don't know much about it, but some sleuthing determined that it is likely from 1904.  It was the chimney that caught my eye.  And the term 'snuggery'.  I know it is a British term for a small, warm, comfortable room, or alcove.  But a whole house - I could possibly live in this. A snuggery feels like it would be someplace sheltered, a private retreat, especially from the busyness of daily life.  This has trees, sunlight, and obviously a fireplace.  A big chair to sink into with a small table for my tea and a book...  what more do you need?

  1. It looks a bit like a Hobbit's house :)

  2. Oh my goodness -- snuggery?! What a charming term! And so befitting of this little cottage.

  3. I'd worry about the crooked chimney! The nursery rhyme of the Little Crooked Man came to mind. It also looks like a pretty heavy chimney for the thatched roof, but I'm no expert! I do like the windows. What more would I need? A dog at my feet as I read!
