When I did a little research, I found that they were designed by Emanuel Hahn (who has done several stamps as well as the caribou on our quarter) in 1956.
They were not well received.
this one was described as "the most diabolical animal I have ever seen" by a Member of Parliament (with similar, and worse, descriptions by a few others)
The above one is known as 'dancing caribou' by collectors (a Can-Can, maybe?)

I guess they would be considered otherwise nowadays. "Diabolical" seems a bit exaggerated! Anyway, I don't think the Parliament care about stamps in 2026. At least, not in my country!

The caribou remind me of flip books when you fan the illustrated edges they move, or perhaps dance.

What strong reactions to the animals! Maybe ungulates aren't as conventionally attractive, but really... One of my Us is an ungulate too!

What is not to like in those stamps? They are both very artistic and the animal has nothing diabolical about him. Maybe some religious fanatic saw the horns and thought of the devil: it's their conscience "speaking"! haha. I like them all!
