This kemphaan is seriously endangered as a breeding bird in the Netherlands and extinct in Belgium
These budgerigars are golden faced blues (from a photo by Leila Jeffries). They are small parrots and the most popular to be kept as pets in North America and Europe
Below is a kestrel, a small member of the falcon family. They are highly adaptable and can live anywhere from mountains to the seaside, to urban areas (even nesting at Notre-Dame Cathedral)

I hadn't heard about the kemphaan. It is such a pity when a species disappear... I hope it will not happen. And those little parrots are so cute!

Now I know the Dutch word for ruff. I have a Dutch postcard somewhere with birds Dutch names but don't think it made an appearance . I have never seen a kemphaan unlike budgies which still seem to remain a popular pet bird, I like the choice of three for the stamp.

Kemphaan is a new bird to me. I'll have to look it up. Yes, budgerigars, or parakeets as we call them, are cute little parrots. We've had them.

I have never heard of the kemphaan; its plumage looks fancy. The kestrel is attractive.
