Joseph Marie Jacquard, a weaver, inventor and merchant who lived from1752 to 1834 in Lyon.  He is perhaps best known for inventing the Jacquard loom (1804) which simplified complex patterns such as brocade and damask.

Lorne Greene, a Canadian actor, best known for playing Ben Cartwright on the tv show Bonanza.  Interesting fact: he was born Lyon Green in 1911.  He died in 1987.

headshots for Sunday Stamps

(and for anyone paying attention... I have no idea why the font keeps changing size)

  2. Ah the mystery of blogger dashboard, who knows.
Bonanza certainly was a staple of 1960s television. Memorable theme tune.

  3. Oh, the font is a Blogger thing. I go through a big rigmarole with them! Either the draft shows centered and it's not when published, or the font size not what it shows. So... at that point I have to change what says centered to something else, then back to centered. But, that often changes the font size. It doesn't show that in the draft, but it does. I highlight that text, change it to smaller or larger, then back to what I want. Then, preview again and it's correct. Adding any new text might make it too large as well. I find WordPress to be very un-user friendly in making a new blog, so I put up with Blogger. My son wonders if it's the theme I have.
    Anyway... here are my heads...

  4. Lisa, thank you! I am going through the same thing and more. I have decided to ignore and just go with whatever happens, but it is so frustrating. I switch from Chrome to Firefox, back to Chrome, and it continues to confound!

  5. Joy, for a few months reruns of Bonanza was being shown every afternoon and I would always sing to the theme (even though the show only had the instrumental version)

    1. I always like to see old series and see how they hold up over time. I may have known the words in the dim and distant past but discovered today all I know is the tune and could only 'sing' dum de dum dum de dum Bonanza etc. I think I've got it out of my system now LOL

  6. Interesting story of Jaquard! I like to read on the origin of things. Bonanza was big on Italian TV too: I remember watching it when I was little. Great stamps!!

    1. I watched it sometimes (my family didn't watch much TV), but only because it had horses!

  7. Blogger has some frustrating issues. One easy way of keeping the size of the letters is:
    -select the text
-clear formatting (the last button on the bar)
    -select again the text
-change the size, the colour, etc.
    -save.
