1989, USSR, Samovar
The first samovar factory was founded in Tula by gunmakers moving in a new direction, in 1778. By the mid 1800s, the town had 70 samovar manufacturers. The peak period for production was in the 1880s and Tula became synonymous with samovars.
for the letter U - USSR
The idea of a samovar bubbling away on a winter evening always seems romantic and of course on a more practical note there would always lashings of tea on tap. Interesting to see the different styles.
ReplyDeleteI've never seen a samovar in use - it seems I am missing out. Two fine stamps.
ReplyDeleteAn interesting topic for postage - they look like fine examples on those stamps.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, and thanks for running Sunday Stamps in 2017 (and beyond).
Beautiful stamps, and mathcing with even three consequent letters: Samovar - Tea - USSR :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
I got one of this series, and now I'm starting to feel like collecting stamps about tea...
ReplyDeleteI think I have seen a Samowar as a child. But I can not remember well. Perhaps my grandparents have had one for decoration or something like this. But it was not in use.
