The Mail Pouch Building in Historic Jonesborough, Tennessee
Originally built in 1888 as a saloon, the building now houses The MAIL POUCH, s unique gift and craft shop. It is a reminder of the days when sign painters toured the country, covering barns and buildings with their handiwork.
The Mail Pouch mural is in excellent condition. It was painted in 1902 and re-discovered in the 1960s when an adjacent building was torn down. The
saloon closed in 1904 when the town voted to prohibit the sale of alcohol.
Wow, a really nice sign, and excellent capture of it too.

ReplyDeleteMy thoughts went to the Blogh brothers. It may be spelt differently and was likely pronounced differently too, but they would have had no idea that the Blogh brothers advertisement would appear on a blog!
Great that this beautiful sign has been preserved.
ReplyDeleteIn this case, I'm glad the adjacent building was torn down so we get to enjoy this excellent bit of history. I'm glad too that a business has taken the name "Mail Pouch."

ReplyDeleteI have never seen a mail pouch sign on a brick building. Also have never seen a mail pouch sign on an old postcard.
