commemorating the 40th anniversary of the reign of Prince Franz Josef II of Liechtenstein.
Vaduz Castle has been the home of the Princely Family of Liechtenstein since 1938 (with Franz Josef being the first ruling prince to live full time in the principality) though they acquired it in 1712 when they purchased the countship of Vaduz. Franz Josef would become the longest ruling sovereign in Europe (51 years) at the time of his death in 1989.
One of the places I'd love to visit some day...and this maxi-card is simply awesome!!! Boosts the never-ending thirst for travelling :)
ReplyDeleteThe colors give it a warm feeling.
ReplyDeletei love this place, and the card is its true and wonderful presentation!
ReplyDeleteWe never hear much of Liechtenstein, do we?
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of accidentally walking across the border in a heavy fog during a backpacking trip to Europe back in the 70s.
Looks a attractive but sturdy castle. I like the light the artist has portrayed in the painting, makes me wonder what the mountain air is like in Lichtenstein.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful pitcure, amazing landscape!
ReplyDeleteLiechtenstein is one of the worlds smallest independent states.and has Vaduz as its capital. This is the first of their stamps I've seen. Castle stamps always have something about them; this one of the best.
ReplyDeleteThat's the sort of castle I love, really old. It makes a wonderful maxi-card!
ReplyDeleteYou have a beautiful Maxi Card there.
ReplyDeleteNice place and maxi-card. I'm not sure I have ever got a postcard from this country!
ReplyDeleteA boyfriend and I (now long ex-boyfriend) drove to L. just to buy stamps. It's a tiny country - easy to drive or walk through.
