oddities

First up is an octopus like creature, originally of Norwegian origin, known as the Kraken

and a serpent like creature named Ogopogo, who is said to live in underwater caves of Lake Okanagan
Ogopogo was seen as a sacred protector who is feared and respected by the Indigenous peoples, but as a demon by the later settlers.  Today, it is seen as an elusive, harmless mascot for the area.

  1. The illustrations are great, and I feel always curious about these folkloric creatures. A bit frightening, too!

My O stamps are on this post.

  3. Ah the Kraken, a great trope for seafaring films. I think I'd rather encounter the sea horse.

  4. These are great! We have Colossal Claude in the Columbia River, said to have a similar appearance to your Ogopogo. I like that name, it's fun to say!
