Sunday Stamps II - 23

Canada, 1948
featuring Queen Victoria who was reigning in 1848 when Responsible Government was introduced and King George VI who was reigning in 1948 during the 100th anniversary.

Queen Victoria was born on May 24th 1819  (Canada celebrates with a holiday on the Monday before the 24th of May).  She would be 196 years old were she still alive.

Strobilomyces streobilaceus is also known as 'old man of the woods'.
The cone fungus has dishevelled scales covering its cap and stem and is found in mixed beech woodland. Do not snack on this mushroom - it has a bitter taste and is not edible.

50th Anniversary of the International Peace Garden, 1982
The International Peace Garden is found on the Canadian-American border of North Dakota and Manitoba and was built to represent the peaceful relationship between our two countries.
Included in the garden is a floral clock, chapel, conservatory, interpretive centre and Game Warden Museum.

Sunday Stamps II - 20

issued 2014 as part of the History of the First World War with a military equipment theme
this stamp shows the Brusilov Breakthrough (also known as Offensive) a high point for the Imperial Russian Army.  A part of Western Ukraine was liberated in 1916 during the four month offensive, but at a cost of 1,600,000 casualties, it was also one of the most lethal battles in world history.
